I became a birth and postpartum doula in 2019. It started out as curiosity for the profession and grew to a passion I never expected to fulfill my soul. I am also working toward becoming a licensed clinical psychologist to offer further support to parents, pregnant individuals, postpartum, fertility issues, adoption, and everything in between surrounding the parenting community.

Care philosophy

It is my job, and more importantly, my passion to make sure that you, your partner (if applicable), and your family are comfortable from the moment you invite me into your lives. I will be there to offer you evidence-based support through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum if you wish.

I cannot recommend Rhiannon and her doula services enough! During my consultation, Rhiannon made me feel so comfortable, calm, and peaceful about the birthing process. She is such a smart, loving, and down-to earth person to have in your corner! I was so nervous about labor and delivery (and everything else that comes after!) But Rhiannon helped me with a birthing plan, (and postpartum plan) gave me GREAT TIPS, and most importantly, listened without judging me, my choices, or my many fears (no matter how small!) When pregnant, EVERYONE gives you advice, but Rhiannon really listens to what YOU want, and helps you to achieve that goal. I also utilized her postpartum services too, as I was very nervous about breastfeeding/pumping. She came to the hospital and gently explained how the pump worked (my little one was in the NICU) and sat with me as I went through that first time pumping. As she sat with me, we had such a wonderful conversation. She makes sure to focus on the Mama! Naturally most people are interested in the baby (and she was WONDERFUL with my little girl too) but she helped me feel like everything I was going through, and feeling was SO normal, especially when my hormones were making my emotions go up and down. It felt like having both a counselor, and a best friend by my side, at the same time. You will not regret using Rhiannon as your Doula! She will care for you, advocate for you, and most importantly, help you feel happy and calm.

Hi! I'm Jamie Young, the doula behind Seed to Sprout. People who give birth and new parents are often over-stimulated and under-supported. It's my goal to empower parent(s) with the knowledge to make the decisions that are both safe and right for their unique family. I am trained through Gina Durant's Life Cycles as a birth and postpartum doula and currently practice in the Buffalo and Rochester area. Prior to being a doula, I was a professional nanny and au pair. I have a passion for evidence based health and wellness and am a certified IIN health coach with my bachelors in psychology and public health.

Care philosophy

Parents (and parents to be) deserve someone with an unbiased, listening ear who can provide them with a compassionate heart, a knowledgeable mind, and a strong core. It's a goal of mine to empower parents with the knowledge to make the decisions that are both safe and right for their unique family.

Lindsay, you have this incredible way of bringing light and joy into a room, while still honoring the depth of struggle someone is experiencing. With this pregnancy, nothing was certain. I was terrified, sick, and anxious. I worried about this baby in every possible way and you were present through all of it. You were a sounding board, a reassuring presence, and a literal shoulder to cry on – far above and beyond your Doula responsibilities.

When our entire plan went out the window, you smiled and said “Ok, I’ve got you.” And you did. You help my husband, my daughter, and you anchored me so steadfastly through some really tough waters until we could bring our baby home. You kept me hopeful and helped me tune out the noise. In those early days of postpartum, raw and vulnerable, you’re the one who crawled into bed next to me and made me feel safe. You listened.

You have helped me heal past trauma, find my voice, regain my confidence and navigate such crazy times. You are a gift to this important work. Each of these mothers, partners, and babies will be better for it; coming into this world with this kind of support, passion and love.

I have been interested in and researching all things pregnancy and birth related since I was 15 and learned that there’s more than one way to birth. The more I researched, the more I learned, and the more I learned, the more I realized how little most people actually know about the birth process. I became a doula after my own traumatic hospital birth to help families make decisions that were best for them. I then went on to have a beautiful, healing home birth my second son. I love working with and helping families discover their wants and carrying those out during their birthing times. I provide information, 24/7 text/phone support, hands on support during the duration of pregnancy and labor, and support in the first crucial weeks of the postpartum period.

Care philosophy

All women deserve the utmost support during the beautiful journey of pregnancy and birth. I believe that empowering and educating birthing families is the best way to bring their ideal birth to life.

Doula Services: FAQs

A doula is a professional that provides emotional, physical and educational support to new parents before, during, and after childbirth and into the early postpartum period. Doulas are companions who strive to give families a safe, positive, and healthy labor experience. They provide parents with evidence-based information and education on childbirth and are someone who the parent can turn to with questions and concerns about having a baby. Doulas also take an active role in collaborating with the parent to create a birth plan.

A certified birth doula offers advice and techniques to help reduce the stress that the parent often experiences during childbirth and provides you with education about different aspects of delivery and labor and what comes after.

The average cost of a doula in Buffalo, NY is lower than the average cost of a doula in the state of New York, which is $1,192.

To put this in further context, the cost of a doula in Buffalo, NY is lower than the U.S. national average cost of a doula, which is $971.

You can hire two types of doulas in Buffalo, NY: a birth doula and a postpartum doula. The birth doula is during your pregnancy and through the birth of your child. They provide you with emotional, physical and educational support during your pregnancy, your labor and delivery and for the first few hours after your child is born.

A postpartum doula will support you for the first few weeks after the baby is born. They provide in-home assistance, including teaching you how to take care of your newborn, acting as lactation consultant, and can provide some night nanny services.

Yes, a birth doula can provide support during a Cesarean birth and delivery. Doulas are non-medical professionals and do not replace obstetricians, physicians, midwives or nurses. They are an additive member to the team and provide emotional, physical and informational support to the birthing parent, partner and family. It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

When you hire a doula in Buffalo, NY, your services typically include several in-person prenatal sessions, 24/7 phone and text support, full attendance throughout your labor, and several hours of support immediately following your birth.

A doula in Buffalo, NY can help you in any kind of birth. Certified doulas are able to assist parents in creating the ideal “birth environment” and help parents deliver their baby safely. A doula can provide support during the birth whether it occurs in a hospital, a home, or another birth center of some kind. Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.

Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. For example, if your preference is to have a non-medicated birth, a doula can help guide you through that process and create a personalized birth plan. A certified doula in Buffalo, NY does not replace medical staff (such as your obstetrician and nurses).

When a surgical procedure is required, there are some situations in which a birth doula can also remain in the operating room, although this is not an expected obligation. A certified birth doula can also assist hospital staff to improve the overall birthing experience. A doula in Buffalo, NY will typically stay with the parents for several hours after birth to help them with birth recovery.

Evidence suggests that a birth doula in Buffalo, NY can help improve parent satisfaction with their baby’s birth and delivery. The involvement of a doula can also lead to shorter deliveries with less complications.

Recent studies show that parents who have a support person like a doula by their side throughout labor and childbirth are more likely to:

  1. Give birth without the need for pain medicine
  2. Describe their birth experience in a positive way
  3. Give birth without the need for medical intervention, such as C-sections or vacuum delivery
  4. Experience a shorter labor

You can hire a doula early in your pregnancy to allow you time to get to know each other and to begin planning for your later trimesters, labor, birth, and aftercare. It is ideal to hire a doula when you are around 20 weeks along, but you can start looking for one before that.

It is never too late to hire a doula in Buffalo, NY; you have right up to your due date to find a doula near you and receive all the benefits of doula support.

While many people think that a doula and a midwife are the same thing, their educational background and job duties are different. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.

A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.

Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
